National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)

NIOSH is the federal agency responsible for conducting research and making recommendations for the prevention of work-related injury and illness. NIOSH is part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the Department of Health and Human Services.

About Our Alliance

AOHP and NIOSH established a collaborative partnership in October 2006 to improve workplace safety and health in the healthcare setting with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU).

AOHP provides ideas to NIOSH on pertinent health and safety issues, reviews documents on NIOSH’s behalf, and could provide locations for research samples. NIOSH keeps AOHP on its radar for issues of interest to both organizations, provides literature to conferences, and links to AOHP from its web site. NIOSH may contribute articles for the AOHP Journal, and publish news of the partnership in its newsletter.
