Position: Journal Editor Responsible To: Executive President
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Journal Editor provides journalistic leadership for the Association's periodical publication, the Journal of the Association of Occupational Health Professionals in Healthcare.
Qualifications
Active Association member for at least four years unless waived by the executive president; employed in the field of occupational health in healthcare, interest and/or experience in periodical publication; committed to Association's objectives and to professional journalism, and an employee health role model for the Association.
Duration of service/position
Selection: This position shall be appointed by the executive president and is subject to approval by the executive board of directors. The editor shall be asked to commit to a minimum of a 2-year term, with the option to renew—with board approval—for an indefinite period of time.
Compensation:
The AOHP member who holds this position shall be compensated a stipend as determined by the board of directors.
Duties and Responsibilities
Adheres to publication deadlines.
Serves as a nonvoting member of the executive board of directors.
Encourages members to use the Journal as means of communication and promotion of the value of occupational health nurses in healthcare.
Mentors individual members with their writing and communication skills.
Edits articles for appropriate content, grammar, interest of subject and appropriate topic.
Researches medical libraries and on-line resources for appropriate previously published articles.
Authorizes the final content of the Journal.
Authors a quarterly Editors Column for the Journal.
Insures that the Journal remains within the Association's budget.
Attends annual AOHP educational conference and promotes the Journal. Promotes the Journal and writing for the Journal with attendees and speakers. Presents Journal awards/recognitions at the Annual Awards Luncheon during the annual national conference.
Networks to develop relationships with potential authors, including appropriate groups to promote new articles for the Journal.
Develops criteria and guidelines for articles submitted.
Obtains authorized permissions for re-publishing previously published articles and other works used in the Journal.
Obtains peer reviews of articles written directly for the Journal.
Seeks nominations for quarterly recognition of an AOHP member as an AOHP Star. Facilitates selection of the quarterly AOHP Star with members of the current Nominations Committee. Authors the quarterly AOHP Star recognition for the Journal.
Authors and distributes thank-you letters to members/authors of articles. Sends complimentary extra Journal copies with letters.
